| Death was a popular theme for both texts and images throughout the late Middle
Ages, and it appeared early and often in print. The most spectacular examples of this topic in early printing were the large blockbook 'Ars Moriendi', which contained a text and illustrations that taught the average man or woman how to accomplish the most serious act of their lives - dying. This image is, of course, much more modest in scope. |
