Custom Molds and Castings

Pewter badges were often distributed as a sign of favor by the nobility to persons they were taking under their protection. (Of course at the level of pewter badges, the protection might be rather remote; courtiers close to a lord were rewarded for their allegiance with brooches similar in form, but made of gold or silver.) Modern uses are similar: we have made badges for societies and groups of re-enactors as marks of membership or allegiance, and for individuals with households or groups under their influence. We have also made personal badges, memorial badges, souvenirs for weddings, and site tokens.

Please contact us to discuss having your vision turned into pewter. Because making the mold is an extremely time-consuming part of producing jewelry by this authentic method, there is a base fee for custom work – usually $250-$350. This fee includes the production of the mold, and some castings from it. We will quote exact numbers for particular orders; for a relatively simple, three-part mold, $250 would get you 50 copies of the piece. We will retain the mold and cast for you in the future at a reduced price per casting, or send you the mold to keep and use, whichever you prefer.

Here are some examples of custom work we have done for re-enactment groups, tourneying societies, and individuals; none of these items are for sale.
