Letter “A” Brooch

$5.00

Brooches and pendants with letters were ubiquitous in the Middle ages and the letter A was probably the most popular. This pin is a humble example of the type worn by Chaucer’s Prioress – A for Amor – and there are numerous extant brooches of this sort in pewter, copper alloy, and precious metals. The original was found in the Netherlands and is dated 1375-1425.
