Ring with Two Stones

$7.50

There are a number of examples of rings with two stones from the late 13th through the 16th century. The nicest ones are gold and have precious or semiprecious stones. These higher-end examples have stones of different kinds – a sapphire and a garnet or a diamond and a ruby. The Museum of London has a 13th-century pewter ring and a 14th-century copper alloy ring with two settings – unfortunately if the pewter was once painted the color is lost, and the settings in the copper alloy ring are empty, so we cannot be sure what colors of stone they had- but the compete examples suggest they also had combinations.

At least one of the remaining rings has an amatory inscription (a “posy”) and between that example and the use of dissimilar stones, these two-stone rings are often understood to be lovers’ gifts – binding two into a beautiful union.

We have elected to adapt the 14th-century copper alloy ring into pewter. The striking angles and dotted decoration create a distinctive piece of jewelry that adds panache to your late medieval interpretation or persona. Our “stones” are glass cabochons.

US ring size 10. See http://www.ringsizes.co/resources.html for size conversions. This is a bit larger than our other rings, so if you have not been able to wear some of those little beauties, this one may be perfect for you!
