Butterfly or Flying Fish Brooch

$5.00

When we made this brooch, we took the word of the archaeologists who found it in Ypres that it is a flying fish. But we have since seen a medieval manuscript picture that showed a tapestry or mural covering a wall behind the main action (and which we will find again, I promise, and cite) that made it clear that animals this shape are in fact butterflies. The original dated 1350-1400.
