Large Rumbler Bell

$3.50$20.00

This excellent large bell is slush cast in pure tin. An inch (25mm) tall, it has a pleasant ring, quite loud for a tin bell. The type of sound, ranging from mellow to sweet, varies by the weight and the (unpredictable) shape of the inside of the bell, all of which depend on the chance tiny variables of slush casting. These are big enough to really be noticed; we sell them singly and in bundles of six.

Although we started with an example from London, dated 1400-1450, similar bells have been found at Valenciennes (14th to 15th century) and elsewhere. Two molds to produce these are also known: a 13th century mold from Rostock (German), and a mold from Rocamadour (France), probably dating 1275-1325. Read more about the authentic molds and see how we cast these technological marvels on our blog.

Whether you use one on a liripipe, a demicient chain, or your paternoster – or a handful on a sash or belt – we think you will be very pleased with these bells.
