St. Olaf Badge

$5.00

The only Viking saint! Olaf II Haraldsson was King of Norway from 1015 to 1028. He was killed at the battle of Stiklestad and canonized a year later. His cult arose rapidly with reports of miracles at his burial place in Nidaros (now Trondheim) and the cathedral built over his grave became a popular place of pilgrimage. He was canonized in 1164. The badge is copied after one in the Statens Historiska Museer in Stockholm. It is dated c. 1250.
