Toy Ewer

$15.00

Here’s your chance to play like a medieval child! An essential part of the well-appointed table, the ewer contains the water necessary to wash the hands of the guests before the meal

Besides being very beautiful, the ewer is a marvel of engineering.  The gallery includes shots of the exemplar and the mold at various stages of production.

The original was found at Brook’s Wharf, in London, but is not dated by context. Comparanda in the form of full-sized vessels suggest a date of the 14th or 15th century.
