Whore of Babylon

$5.00

Okay, it’s speculation that this excellent brooch, dated 1375-1425, represents the Whore of Babylon. The Beast only has one head, instead of seven, for starts. But the comb echoes the one she holds in the famous 14th century tapestry at Angers, and we imagine that this represents if not the Whore herself, the Whore as she might appear in a cycle of plays or a masque, where limited resources lead to a shortage of beastly noggins.
