“Handy” Hooks and Eyes

$10.00

Looking for something different to keep your clothes on? These hand-shaped hooks clasping rectangular eyes are unexpected and charming.

The hand and eye are cast together in a two-part mold; the hand is cast flat, and the fingers bent around to form a hook after the pieces are cut from the sprue and cleaned up. Three fancy loops at each wrist provide secure locations to sew the parts to either side of your cote, shirt, or gown.

This set of fasteners combines adaptations  of multiple authentic eyes with rectangular loops (and fancy sew-downs) and hand-shaped hooks . The pewter eye that inspired ours was found in Rotterdam (BOOR dates it 1350-1500) and a similar copper alloy hook was found in Nieuwlande (undated). A hand-shaped copper alloy hook was similarly found in Nieuwlande, and our collection includes a tiny hand-shaped hook of brass sheet and a larger cast pewter hand.

The resulting pastiche, although not as historically accurate as most of our goods, is a delightful combination in the style of the late Middle Ages. We think you will enjoy wearing them!

The price is for 6 pairs (12 pieces)
