KingDing Brooch

$5.00

This regal figure has something to be proud of – and he wants to share it with everyone.

Our brooch is based on a medieval pewter naughty bit found in Kampen, in the Netherlands, dated to 1325-1375. The original (which you can see on our Pinterest page) has a most unfortunate kink in his willie, which is bent up to touch his chin. But we straightened that out at the same time we were reconstructing his crown – which did not cast fully. (We used the crown on the two originals of Louise in Flight as an example.)

The Middle Ages enjoyed an awful lot of M-shaped brooches with religious, secular, and romantic connotations. The natural result is that the form was adopted for obscene dress accessories that might be mistaken for something inoffensive at a distance. We offer another naughty M and a nice one.
